Durbar Square, Patan

Continuing their Royal Square tour the pair made it to Patan by taxi. The Newari architecture was even more compelling than that of Kathmandu - and photos really don't seem to do the place justice. Most of the square was built in the 14th to 18th centuries during the Malla period. The tall statue in the middle is King Yoganarendra Malla's Statue. The golden figure of the king sits on a huge lotus bud, protected by a looming cobra. Posted by Picasa
