Swayambhunath Temple

The Swayambunath temple is known by the locals as the Monkey Temple (Can't think why..) and is a fascinating place perched high on a hill overlooking Kathmandu. The cheeky monkeys are everywhere - bouncing on the intricate metal work round the main Stupa and genrally causing absolute mayhem. In stark contrast, the Kargyupa Gompa next door was a picture of serenity where the Buddhist monks were praying with their very distinctive chants, drums, horns and bells. Posted by Picasa
